What You Can Measure on a Paving Job

Parking lot and driveway area

Trace the lot, drive, or road on satellite imagery and close the shape for square feet and perimeter. Split a big job into named areas ("Main lot", "Entrance drive").

Subtract islands and buildings

Carve out landscaped islands, planters, or a building pad inside a traced lot. The cutout comes off the total.

Curb, striping, and crack runs

Draw a line along any run, straight or multi-point, for linear feet.

Condition photos on the map

Photograph cracks, potholes, and failed patches. GPS-tagged photos pin to the map where you took them, and you can circle problems right on the image.

How do I measure a parking lot for a paving bid?
Trace the lot on the SiteScope project map to get square feet, carve out islands and planters, and draw lines along curbs and striping for linear feet. Parked cars, shadows, and old imagery can hide edges, so confirm the boundary on site.
Does SiteScope calculate asphalt tonnage or sealcoat?
No. It gives you measured areas and lengths. You apply depth, density, coverage rates, and pricing in your own estimate. The formulas on this page are a starting point.
How many tons of asphalt do I need?
Tons = area (sq ft) x compacted depth (in) / 12 x density (lb per cu ft) / 2,000. Hot mix is commonly figured around 145 lb per cubic foot. A 5,000 sq ft drive at 2 inches: about 60 tons. Use your plant’s mix density when you have it.
How much base stone do I need under asphalt?
Cubic yards = area (sq ft) x depth (in) / 12 / 27. For tons, multiply by your supplier’s weight per cubic yard for that stone.
Do I need special hardware?
No. Satellite measuring works in the SiteScope app on iPhone and Android and in the web app.
